MORE ABOUT COUNSELLING
You may be feeling overwhelmed, stressed anxious, stuck, not sure where to begin but would benefit from some support to explore your situation and help you make sense of things. The challenges you are facing may be impacting on your relationships and mood, feeling depressed or experiencing low self esteem.
It takes courage to make the first step in finding a counsellor. This might be the first time you've considered counselling, it can be overwhelming with the amount of choice when you look at the various counselling directories, deciding which path and approach you want to take.
Therefore you can call me to arrange a free 20 minute consultation by phone, zoom or WhatsApp to see how we might work together and how I might be able to help. This will give you time to sense how you feel with me before you decide what you want to do next and if you feel ready to book your first session. It's important that you feel that I'm the right person for you.
My aim is to offer a safe, confidential space that gives you 50 minutes at a regular time each week to talk about whatever you want to bring to the session, away from the interruptions and distractions of others, just time and freedom for you to focus solely on yourself in exploring your thoughts, feelings and issues in an environment where you can build trust and open up without the fear of judgment, so you can say what you truly feel.
I will work collaboratively with you to help face difficulties and facilitate the resources within you to gain new insights and a clearer understanding of yourself and your relationships. Helping you reflect on what you need or what might be holding you back, to enable you to have a greater awareness of your choices or view a situation in a different light.
From when we first meet it's an unknown journey, it's as though you arrive with all that you're holding in a bag, you put the bag down and in your own time start to unpack what you've been struggling with, from here the process begins to
unfold.'It's the client who knows what hurts, what direction to go, what problems are crucial, what experiences have been deeply buried' - (Carl Rogers, the father of person centred counselling)
It's your path to explore, your insights and learning to be discovered. In this sense I help enable you to find your internal compass in knowing what's best for you, for change and personal growth to develop at your own pace.
You can be assured that I'm a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy www.bacp.co.uk and adhere to their ethical framework and good practice. I attend regular supervision and courses for continued practitioner development.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS PERSON CENTRED COUNSELLING?
Carl Rogers was an American psychologist who founded the approach. As the name suggests this mode of therapy concentrates very much on the person and uses the therapeutic relationship to help you understand what is happening in your world. It's a non-directive approach, I believe you are the expert on your life, therefore you bring to the session what you feel is most important.
I will work collaboratively with you in building an empathic relationship to help you face difficulties, make changes and find a way forward at a pace that is best for you.
WHAT IS EXISTENTIAL THERAPY?
This type of therapy focuses on the struggle we have as humans and our place in the world physically, socially, personally and spirituality. How we experience and sense life through our own unique lenses. Existential therapy uses a strong philosophical understanding to help you better understand what is happening in your world and can be an empowering way to facilitate the resources within you to gain new insights and a greater awareness of your choices. Its key concepts are concerned with freedom, responsibility, anxiety, isolation, meaning and death.
